Toyota and Kia models represent some of the most popular automotive picks. In this guide, we compare the 2025 lineup for both brands to provide our recommended options in several key categories.

Subcompact Crossovers: Soul vs. Corolla Cross

Subcompact SUVs give you generous space and desirable features at an affordable price. Both the Soul and Corolla Cross have seating for five passengers, with advanced infotainment tech and driver assistance options. The Soul gets up to 35 highway miles per gallon, so it’s the better pick for fuel economy. While these models match in terms of cargo space, the boxy shape of the Kia Soul makes it more comfortable for passengers in both rows.

2-Row SUVs: Sorento vs. 4Runner

The Sorento and 4Runner compete in the two-row midsize category. The latter received a redesign for 2025 while the Kia Sorento had a refresh in 2024. Stick with the Sorento for enhanced tech offerings, including a standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen compared to an 8-inch screen in the 4Runner. You can also expand to the available 24-inch display in the Sorento while the 4Runner’s available touchscreen maxes out at just over 12 inches.

Both SUVs have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as advanced driver assistance features like stop-and-go cruise control.

3-Row SUVs: Telluride vs. Highlander

Both the Kia Telluride and the Highlander accommodate up to five people. The Telluride is equipped with a 291-horsepower V6 that gets 262 pound-feet of torque, while the Highlander has a 265-hp turbo-four that provides 310 pound-feet of torque. Each SUV has an eight-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

In addition to more power, the Telluride also comes out ahead in terms of cargo space. You’ll have 87 cubic feet compared to about 84 cubic feet in the Highlander.

Midsize Sedans: K5 vs. Camry

Enjoy the elegance of a classic midsize sedan. The Kia K5 competes with the Camry and comes out ahead in terms of style, luxury, and performance. It’s available with a turbocharged engine that delivers 290 hp and class-leading torque of 310 pound-feet, compared to a max of 232 hp for the Camry. The K5 comes with standard all-wheel drive, while the Camry comes equipped with front-wheel drive.

The modern K5 nearly doubles the available screen size in the Camry from a max of 12.3 to 24 inches. It also features a standard wireless charging pad, which is an optional upgrade for the Camry.
